A veteran centerman has emerged as a trade target for General Manager Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks as the team pushes forward with their plans to rebuild.
We’re still in the early stages of the Vancouver Canucks’ rebuild as General Manager Patrik Allvin and President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford continue to decide how to get this team back to being competitive on a yearly basis.
“We are transitioning into a rebuild here, acquiring younger players through the draft. Obviously, the draft is really important for us. Since Jim and I got [here] three years ago, we’ve definitely always emphasized on getting younger.” Patrik Allvin said last month.
While the Canucks ideally want to get younger amid their rebuild, primarily by adding prospects and draft picks, the club also needs to surround that youth with veterans who know what it takes to be an NHLer and some intriguing trade options have begun to emerge for the club to consider in the weeks and months ahead.

“Strome is a bona fide, natural centremen who has no form of trade protection and has previously played in Canada (for the Oilers). His lack of trade protection makes him an especially attractive reclamation project for a centre-needy team like the Canucks, given that he’d be relatively easy to flip at the 2026 NHL trade deadline provided that he can retrieve his previous level of effectiveness and production.” Dayal and Drance said about Ryan Strome.
The Mississauga, Ontario native is currently in his 13th season in the National Hockey League, but he’s struggled mightily offensively this season, registering just three goals and eight points in 32 games for the Ducks.
While he might not be a top trade target for the Vancouver Canucks, nor is it a guarantee that the Anaheim Ducks would move him, his future in Orange County beyond the 2026-27 campaign is unclear and given his age, turning 33 in July, Strome could be a good fit for Adam Foote’s group in a bottom-six role, giving him the opportunity to mentor younger forwards such as Aatu Raty, Jonathan Lekkerimaki, among others.
