The NFL season is over and our winter sports teams have reached their respective breaks. For the Sixers and Flyers, it couldn’t come at a better time. Each team limped into the break and probably needed to get away from the day-to-day responsibilities of pro sports.
The Sixers, who were blown out by the New York Knicks 138-89 on Wednesday Night, send guard Tyrese Maxey to Los Angeles as a starter in the NBA All-Star game and Sixers rookie sensation V.J. Edgecombe will participate in the Rising Stars game.
The Flyers, who were 1-5 in their last six games, get a longer winter break and get more time to rest during the Olympics. Only three Flyers players are participating in the games plus Head coach Rick Tocchet as an assistant coach for Team Canada.
The Phillies pitchers and Catchers reported to spring training in Clearwater Fla on Wednesday with the rest of the team starting on Monday Feb 16th. The Phillies released Nick Castellanos on Thursday and will owe him 20 million dollars in 2026. If Castellanos signs with another team, they will owe him the balance of what he signs for. Let’s play ball!! The Locker Room with Billy Schweim will cover it all this weekend.
On Saturday’s show, Producer Nick Earnshaw and my intern Erin Ewing will join me in the studio. We will talk with Kristen Moorby, who is the production manager for NBC’s sports and television broadcast of the Super Bowl. Kristen will tell us what’s involved in producing the big game. We all know Kristen from her years running the Cape May Point women’s challenge. The Phillies released Nick Castellanos and we will react. NBA All-star weekend and the Olympics will be discussed, and Eagles news. In Hour Two, we will get our “High School Athletes in the Spotlight” with Fran Mclaughlin brought to you by the Philly Pretzel Factory of EHT.
On Sunday’s show Producer Alex Berardis and my Intern Erin Ewing will join me in the studio. We will recap the week in sports and preview the NBA All-Star game. The Phillies full team reports on Monday to open spring training. The Flyers have a two week break. We will hear from two-time Stanley Cup Champion with the Pittsburgh Penguins Grant Jennings. He played with Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet. In Hour Two, Mr. Negadelphia P.J Corda checks in, brought to you by the Vassor Pool Service. Mr. Negadelphia talks about the Philly Sports scene.
All that and more this weekend in The Locker Room with Billy Schweim, every Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to Noon on 97.3 FM ESPN radio South Jersey.
