Switzerland forward Kevin Fiala was stretchered off the ice late in the third period of Friday’s game against Canada with an apparent left leg injury.
The Los Angeles Kings winger got tangled in the corner with Canada forward Tom Wilson and fell awkwardly to the ice. He immediately called for assistance. Fiala had 20:08 of ice time prior to the injury.
Canada won the game 5-1.
Fiala had an assist in Switzerland’s 4-0 win over France on Thursday to open Group A play.
A 29-year-old native of St. Gallen, Fiala is in his 12th NHL season and fourth with the Kings. He appeared in 56 games this season, scoring 18 goals and adding 22 assists.
An All-Star in 2023, Fiala has represented Switzerland on numerous occasions including in back-to-back silver medal-winning performances at the 2024 and 2025 IIHF World Championship.
In 707 games with the Kings, Minnesota Wild and Nashville Predators, Fiala has 229 goals and 299 assists.
