Kevin Fiala suffered an apparent serious injury during Switzerland’s Olympic game on Friday at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Games, casting a shadow over his ability to play the rest of the tournament.
The Los Angeles Kings forward went down following a heavy collision involving Tom Wilson, with replays suggesting contact to Fiala’s left knee or leg as it bent awkwardly during the fall. He remained on the ice for several minutes and required medical attention before a stretcher was brought out, helping him off the ice as he was unable to leave under his own power.
The incident occurred late in the third period, with Team Canada leading comfortably 5-1. It was clear on the faces of the Team Canada players as they watched the replay on their iPads. They knew it wasn’t good. Concern quickly spread across social media, where fans described the scene as “not a good sign” and feared a lengthy absence.
No official diagnosis has been released by the Swiss team doctors or the Kings — as the injury just happened a few minutes prior to this post going live. Fiala entered the Olympics in strong form and had been a key contributor for Switzerland. He had recently made comments about how many times this group of players had played together and how much they love each other.
Kevin Fiala Kings injured
If the injury proves long-term, it could significantly impact both his national team and Los Angeles’ playoff outlook. Updates are expected soon. The timing couldn’t be worse. Not only was it a brutal way to end a game that was almost over, but the Kings just made a trade for Artemi Panarin in the hopes that adding him would help their playoff push. Without Fiala, the odds decrease significantly.
