A Detroit Red Wings prospect finally returned to the ice after a long-term injury and immediately had an impact on his team.

This year, Wings fans got to see multiple talented players play their rookie seasons in Detroit, such as Axel Sandin-Pellikka, Emmitt Finnie, and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard.

However, with Detroit’s filled prospect pool, many more could make their way within the organization after the season.

One of them just returned to action following a long-term injury.

Red Wings Prospect Scores a Goal on First Shift Back From Long-Term Injury

He finally returned to the lineup on Thursday and scored a goal on his first shift of the game.

This was his 21st point in his 31st game.

“Honestly, I didn’t believe it was possible (smiles) – right on the first shift, the first goal. Of course, it was a joy to share that moment with the guys. It gave us a little boost right away.”

That boost ended up being the game-winning goal for CSKA, who beat Spartak 2–0.

The 22-year-old forward’s contract expires at the end of the season. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him in Detroit or Grand Rapids in the upcoming months.

With Max Plante and Carter Bear, Buchelnikov is definitely considered one of the most interesting Wings prospects not currently developing in the AHL or NHL.

Hopefully, he’ll be able to remain healthy for the next part of his development.
