The Vancouver Canucks are left with a big decision to make as the top contenders have begun to emerge for veteran forward Evander Kane ahead of the trade deadline.
“Evander Kane’s agent Dan Milstein has been given permission to help facilitate a trade for his client.” Rick Dhaliwal said on X towards the end of January.
The Canucks weren’t able to get a deal done before the roster freeze went into effect, but the expectation is that he’ll be moved in advance of the trade deadline and recently, some of the top contenders have emerged as landing spots for the nine-time 20-goal scorer.

Chris Johnston believes that the Colorado Avalanche will be where Evander Kane will be suiting up post-trade deadline, while James Mirtle went with their Central Division rival and the team they’re battling with for top spot, the Dallas Stars.
When it comes to the potential return Patrik Allvin could receive for Evander Kane, Johnston and Mirtle believe that a third round pick is possible, if the Canucks are willing to retain a portion of his salary, which comes off the books on June 30th.
“The Canucks are willing to retain salary on Kane, and they’d likely take back a third-round pick as compensation, which makes him a relatively low-risk add for a contender like Colorado.” Johnston said.
Given Evander Kane’s experience – 986 games in the National Hockey League and back-to-back appearances in the Stanley Cup Final – he’s going to be an attractive piece for a lot of contenders and hopefully it’ll lead to a bit of a bidding war, which could drive up the price and increase Vancouver’s chances of getting a third round pick, or even more.
