Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin is poised to get a decent return leading up to the deadline in March as a former first round pick has raised his trade value.
With less than three weeks to go until the National Hockey League’s trade deadline for the 2025-26 season, the Vancouver Canucks are facing some tough decisions as they fully embrace their plans to rebuild and get younger, whether that be by adding prospects, draft picks or ideally, both.
Several members of the Vancouver Canucks have already begun to draw interest on the trade market, whether that be pending unrestricted free agents such as Evander Kane, or others like Conor Garland, who could be moved before his no-movement clause kicks in on July 1st.
While the majority of trade noise in Vancouver is involving the team’s pending UFAs, a former first rounder that the club only acquired earlier this season could be on the move once again and is raising his trade value overseas at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Vancouver Canucks poised to get decent return as former first rounder raises trade value
Due to the injury issues, Reichel was given a chance to prove himself by Adam Foote and the coaching staff, however he didn’t play up to snuff and a little over a week before Christmas the Vancouver Canucks placed him on waivers in order to assign him to the American Hockey League.
Since arriving in Abbotsford, Reichel has played fairly well, registering ten points (five goals, five assists) and is a minus-seven in 19 games and as the calendar flipped to February, he had another massive opportunity ahead of him at the 2026 Winter Olympics, where the Nuremberg, Germany has shown why the Vancouver Canucks traded for him in the first place.
After going point-less in Germany’s opening win over Denmark on Thursday, Lukas Reichel stepped up on Saturday, as he looked to help propel his nation to a 2-0-0-0 record against Teddy Blueger and Team Latvia.
While Germany may have lost the game to Latvia, ending their chances of being the best second placed team in the preliminary round and advancing directly to the quarterfinals, Lukas Reichel found the back of the net just over two minutes into the first period, putting a big smile on the face of General Manager Patrik Allvin as he continues to evaluate his trade options for the 23-year-old forward.
“WAKE UP EVERYONE ‼
Lukas Reichel scored his first Olympic Goal this morning! 🚨” the Abbotsford Canucks said on X.
