The stage is set for Wednesday’s slate of elimination games. Following successful performances in the qualifying round for both Sweden and Czechia, the quarterfinals will include all eight Avalanche Olympic participants.
But it won’t end that way. Gabe Landeskog and the Swedes are set to take on Brock Nelson and Team USA.
Meanwhile, Czechia and Canada will battle for the second time in four games, this time in an elimination game for the right to advance to the semifinals.
“We let them win the first one because we knew we were not going to win two in a row against Canada,” Necas told reporters in Italy.
Necas has been Czechia’s best forward. He has three goals and seven points, leading the team in both categories. But all of his points came after Canada rolled past the Czech’s 5-0 in the opening match of each nation’s round robin games.
Landeskog and Nelson are also on a collision course for an opportunity to advance to the final four. Each has two goals and have both been the top contributor in a win.
As for Joel Kiviranta and Artturi Lehkonen, the duo and Team Finland will face Switzerland. The final match of the quarterfinals is Germany and Slovakia.
