Rasmus Dahlin and Tage Thompson are the longest-tenured members of the Buffalo Sabres, having arrived together as promising first-round prospects in 2018 and since developed into leaders and key contributors.

Now, they’ll go head-to-head on the world stage.

Dahlin and Thompson’s Olympic journeys will intertwine on Wednesday when Sweden plays the United States in a single-elimination, quarterfinal matchup in Milan. The puck drops at 3:10 p.m. EST with coverage on NBC and Peacock.

Thompson scored two goals as Team USA dominated its three preliminary-round games to win its group and earn a bye to the quarterfinal round. While his overall ice time has been limited on a talented U.S. roster, he’s been a fixture on the top power-play unit.

Dahlin has been a workhorse for Sweden, which finished third in its group as the result of a goal-differential tiebreaker but won a single-elimination playoff qualifier against Latvia on Tuesday. He leads the team in average ice time and leads all Olympic defensemen with five points (1+4) through four games.
