Leon Draisaitl is the greatest hockey player to ever come out of Germany.

The Edmonton Oilers superstar is not the first Draisaitl to represent his country, though.

Leon’s dad, Peter, played for Germany a generation ago.

Who is Leon Draisaitl’s dad?

Leon Draisaitl’s dad is named Peter, and he was a long-time hockey player who has also spent time coaching in Germany.

Now 60 years old, Peter Draisaitl played on three Olympic teams — for West Germany in 1988, then for Germany in 1992 and 1998.

He also spent an 18-year professional career in Germany.

In the 1988 Olympics with West Germany, Peter Draisaitl had an assist.

In 1992 for Germany, he scored one goal and dished out three assists.

And then in the 1998 Games with Germany, Peter had two goals and two assists.

Overall, he played 73 games across various competitions for the West Germany and Germany senior national teams, scoring 14 goals with 17 assists.

Leon actually just scored his 15th international goal on Tuesday in a win over France at the 2026 Olympics to move past Peter. He has two goals overall at these Games to go with four assists.

Father and son have both represented their country well.
