Detroit Red Wings defenseman Moritz Seider and Germany’s hopes for an Olympic medal were dashed Wednesday with a 6-2 loss to Slovakia in the quarterfinals in Milan, Italy.
Pavol Regenda tallied two goals and an assist for third-seeded Slovakia, which got an empty-net goal from former Red Wings forward Tomas Tatar.
Slovakia advanced to Friday’s semifinals against an opponent to be determined.
Seider had two shots on goal and no points in 27:48. He finished the tournament with two assists in five games, averaging 26:16.
Seider will get several days off before joining the Red Wings for practice at some point next week prior to their next game, Feb. 26 at Ottawa.
