Some of the best moments of the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics happen when Team USA’s athletes aren’t competing.

Women’s hockey star Caroline Harvey is seen giving what at-first seems like a standard interview in a TikTok video shared by NBCOlympics — until she spoke about her childhood mentor. Then the video took an emotional twist.

Before the 23-year-old knew what was happening, her mentor — her former middle school principal and soccer coach — interrupted the interview with a surprise visit.

“[Lisa Dias] is my old middle school principal,” Harvey said when asked who her mentors were growing up. “She was such an important part of my journey… I remember she was my soccer coach, but she was also my mentor… She played such a big role in that part of my life, and — “

Harvey was stopped in her tracks as Dias walked into the frame.

The two embraced as the star defender on Team USA’s women’s hockey team couldn’t believe her eyes.

“What? You’re here? You came all the way here?” Harvey asked.

“I did — I came all the way here to see you,” Dias told her.

It was such a sweet moment — and even Harvey struggled to find the words to express her emotions.

“I’m blindsided right now,” Harvey confessed.

Dias told her, “It’s been amazing watching you grow from when you were a little 8-year-old running around the school and to see where you are today. And I don’t even think you realize what an inspiration you are to all the young athletes, in particular, young female athletes.”

Harvey has already etched her name into the Winter Olympics record books in 2026. So far, she has nine points (two goals and seven assists) in the competition, which is the most ever by any American defender for a single tournament in Olympics history

While she didn’t add to that point total during USA’s 5-0 victory over Sweden in the semifinals, she’ll have plenty of opportunities for more scoring in the gold medal game. Keep reading for more information about how to tune in to that can’t-miss matchup.
