Cottage Grove and St. Paul’s 12U girls hockey teams played 12 overtime sessions before the shootout finally determined a winner.

The Cottage Grove 12U girls hockey team won in a shootout Wednesday to cap a 15-period game that spanned three days. Cottage Grove defeated St. Paul after 12 overtime sessions failed to determine a winner.
The game started on Monday, and after ending regulation in a tie, the two teams played six overtimes before the game was eventually suspended. On Tuesday, the two teams returned to South St. Paul’s Doug Woog Arena, but after four scoreless overtimes, the game was pushed to a third day.
On Wednesday, the two teams played 5-on-5 for the 11th overtime session, before shifting to 3-on-3 for another overtime. The shootout even went six rounds before Cottage Grove finally broke the tie.
