The New York Rangers are officially throwing in the towel, and the Edmonton Oilers are actively circling the wreckage.

Elliotte Friedman just lit a match under the trade deadline market.

Appearing on the “Oilers Now” podcast, the insider dropped a massive hint. He openly admitted he is “curious” about Vincent Trocheck.

Elliotte Friedman: Re NHL rumour mill: I think some stuff is starting to kick up; I’m curious about Vincent Trocheck – Oilers Now (2/17)

When the most connected guy in hockey brings up a specific name on an Edmonton broadcast, you immediately connect the dots.

Vincent Trocheck the missing piece for the Edmonton Oilers?

Trocheck is exactly the kind of weapon the Oilers desperately need right now.

You don’t just want pure speed in the postseason; you need absolute violence down the middle.

He carries an affordable $5.625 million cap hit, and rightfully so as he actually earns his paycheck by winning over 54% of his faceoffs and hunting defensemen in the corners.

Edmonton already has the elite superstars who can fill the net, but they need a gritty, two-way center who makes opposing lines completely miserable.

If the Oilers pull this off, the rest of the Western Conference is in serious trouble. But its important to note that Trocheck has reportedly stated that he would rather stay in the east if he is moved.

32 Thoughts (Feb 6): Vincent Trocheck has a little bit of control on his situation and right now if he moves, he would like to stay East. #NYR #NHL

Will the front office empty the prospect pool to bring him to Alberta?
