An unfamiliar face draws into the Leafs lineup at practice as two regulars become unavailable.
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced that forward Max Domi would miss practice Friday for Personal reasons, with goaltender Joseph Woll also not participating with the flu.
In a corresponding move, forward Benoit-Olivier Groulx was recalled from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.
Groulx, 26, leads the Marlies in goals with 22, as well as points with 42, while appearing in 47 games for the Marlies this season.
Having appeared in 65 career NHL games, Groulx played 42 games for the Anaheim Ducks in the 2023-24 season. Groulx hasn’t appeared for the Leafs this season.
With the NHL break still ongoing as the Olympics continue, the move adds another body, but if Groulx will play is unlikely.
The Leafs resume play in six days against the Tampa Bay Lightning. It is not indicated that Domi’s absence would keep him out for as long as to miss that game, although it would be at this stage too soon to speculate.
Woll should also be back for Toronto by the time play resumes, although in the case that Woll isn’t at full health by next Wednesday vs Tampa Bay, the Leafs have a game the night after vs the Florida Panthers, a back-to-back Toronto would like to have their tandem of Woll and Anthony Stolarz healthy to split the two games.
