Netminder has his bearings

Some players have embraced the village’s “dorm life.” For Hellebuyck, it took some adjusting to get a routine down. As a goaltender, routines are important.

Although things are different from the NHL, once the former UMass-Lowell goalie got his bearings, all was good.

In two games, Hellebuyck posted a 95.24 save percentage, good for second best among goalies at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

“I think everyone’s buzzing. We need to get some rest and continue to build our game and enjoy this part. You know, this doesn’t come around very often,” Hellebuyck told KSDK after a 5-1 win over Germany.

The U.S. will play Sweden on Wednesday (18 February) at 21:10 CET at the Milano Santagiulia Hockey Arena.
