Buffalo Sabres forward Tage Thompson delivered another strong performance for Team USA before an injury cut his night short during Friday’s Winter Olympics semifinal against Slovakia.

Thompson helped fuel an early American surge, assisting on the game’s opening goal scored by Dylan Larkin before adding a goal of his own later in the period. The tally marked Thompson’s third goal of the Olympic tournament, continuing his productive run on the international stage.

Concern arose in the second period when Thompson exited the game and did not return. NBC reported the decision was precautionary, and the Sabres star was absent from the bench for the third period. Details surrounding the injury were not immediately disclosed.

Early updates suggested the issue may not be serious. NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported that Team USA head coach Mike Sullivan expects Thompson to be available for Sunday’s gold medal game.

Team USA went on to secure a 6-2 victory, advancing to the Olympic championship matchup against Canada scheduled for 8:10 a.m. Sunday.
