A National Hockey League insider has revealed which player the Los Angeles Kings might need to part with in order to land Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson.
“Obviously, every club in the National Hockey League has untouchables, but management of the Vancouver Canucks is now using the rebuild word, so they have to be open for business, open for just about anything, and that might include finally trading Elias Pettersson.” TSN’s Darren Dreger said.
Trading Elias Pettersson will have to come on his terms, due to the fact he has a full no-movement clause for the entirety of his contract, but if an opportunity comes up where he could go to a competitive team and still play a big role, it’s hard to envision him not considering it.

“Their interest in Elias Pettersson increased with the Swede’s two-goal game Saturday for Sweden in the Olympics, plus the Kings have $15 million in cap space.” Kuzma said.
Even after adding Artemi Panarin earlier this month, the Kings want to make another splash and want to go on a deep run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs amid Anze Kopitar’s final season in the National Hockey League, but it won’t be cheap to acquire Elias Pettersson.
While a first round pick will need to be included, the Vancouver Canucks will almost certainly like another piece as part of a hypothetical deal with the Los Angeles Kings and during a recent edition of DFO Rundown, NHL insider Irfaan Gaffar mentions forward Alex Laferriere as a potential target for Patrik Allvin.
Laferriere, a native of Chatham, New Jersey, is in his third year in the National Hockey League with the Kings and is currently on pace to break a career-high in goals, which was 19 last season.
The 24-year-old would be a solid middle-six option for Adam Foote and doesn’t come with too high of a cap hit either as he’s earning just $4.1 million annually until the conclusion of the 2027-28 season, when he’ll become a restricted free agent.
