It marks Team USA’s first men’s Winter Olympics gold medal in the sport since the Miracle on Ice in 1980.

The game, which NBC showed without adverts during play to the joy of many fans, was of the highest quality.

So much so, NHL fans now want major changes to the All-Star game that usually takes place annually.

This year, the All-Star game was skipped so that NHL players could compete in the Olympics.

Now ice hockey fans are calling for that to take place more often with a superior replacement in mind.

A journalist wrote on X, “Gary Bettman needs to immediately call a Press Conference and announce the abolition of the All Star Game.

“Starting next year, it’s got to be USA vs Canada every February.”

Another reporter agreed, adding, “Pretty clear to me: NHL needs to ditch All-Star games and do Four Nations at least 2 of every 3 years in between these Olympic matchups. Hockey deserves it.”

A fan responded to that, “2027–regular all star game. 2028–4 nations. 2029–regular all star game. 2030–Olympics. Repeat ad infinitum.”

It was quite a popular suggestion among North American fans but some Europeans wanted a word.

One fan commented, “They need alternate World Cup and Olympics each 2 years.

“In the other years they can do all star or a USA vs Canada and Finland vs Sweden vs Norway rivalry series.”

If the 2026 Winter Olympics elimination stages showed anything, the more hockey nations involved, the better.

The group stages weren’t particularly riveting but when it came to knockout time, nations like Czechia, Slovakia and so on really impressed.

USA finished with 12 golds and 33 medals overall – behind only Norway on both counts
