The Jordan Kyrou situation has just reignited excitement among Canadiens fans.

The St. Louis Blues star forward has reportedly officially informed management that he is now open to waiving his no-movement clause to leave Missouri.

We can all agree that the Blues’ situation, sitting 31st in the league, is pushing the talented winger toward the exit. David Pagnotta also confirmed that the player is ready for a fresh start, which puts Kent Hughes back in the driver’s seat.

“Re Jordan Kyrou: There are teams that wouldn’t mind prying him… whether that’s Seattle or Montreal that tried in the summer… maybe they circle back, or another team that’s looking, a Toronto or whomever”

– David Pagnotta, Daily Faceoff Live

The March 6 trade deadline is fast approaching, and the Canadiens are actively looking for a top-line winger. Kyrou checks all the boxes with an $8.125M contract that remains valid for four more seasons after this one.

He’s the type of asset who fits perfectly with the club’s current roster. His NHL career statistics speak for themselves, despite a more modest total of 32 points, including 13 goals, in 47 games played this year.

At 27 years old, the big winger has proven offensive production with two seasons nearing the 40-goal mark. Simply put, his immediate offensive impact would stabilize Montreal’s top six for the long term.

Should Kent Hughes make a bold move?

“Re Jordan Kyrou trade rumours: I think he’s prepared for it, I think he’s open to it, I think he’s relayed that message to the Blues.”

– David Pagnotta, Leafs Morning Take

The price to pay will be high, but the Canadiens have the assets necessary to complete a major deal before March 6. Montreal’s interest in the Ontario native isn’t new, especially after intense discussions last summer.

Hughes must now decide whether he is ready to sacrifice prospects for this natural goal scorer.
