The Dallas Stars have made a roster decision on injured standout Mikko Rantanen.
On Monday, the team announced Rantanen would be placed on injured reserve. The move is retroactive to Feb. 20. Rantanen sustained a lower-body injury during Finland’s Winter Olympic semifinal matchup with Canada. The lower-body injury led to his absence from Finland’s bronze medal game against Slovakia.
Placing Rantanen on IR means the forward would miss at least a week. The move also opens up a roster spot for Lian Bichsel to be activated. Bichsel has been out with a lower-body injury since Nov. 30.
Stars head coach Glen Gulutzan also spoke to reporters Monday, where he shared updates on other Olympians returning to Dallas’ roster. According to Gulutzan, goaltender Jake Oettinger won’t play Wednesday against Seattle due to travel logistics. Casey DeSmith will start in goal.
