The National Hockey League (NHL) deleted a social media post celebrating Washington Capitals center Dylan Strome as a “girl dad” after online backlash linked it to a video of U.S. men’s Olympic hockey players laughing during a phone call with President Donald Trump, according to Total Pro Sports.

A video circulated showing members of the U.S. men’s team laughing while Trump joked on a congratulatory call about also having to invite the gold-winning U.S. women’s team to the State of the Union, which drew swift online criticism.

Amid that reaction, the NHL’s X account posted a photo of Strome with his daughter with the caption, “Dylan Strome is the ultimate girl dad,” before deleting it as critical comments accumulated, according to the outlet. Although some negative comments were levelled towards Strome, the player is Canadian and was not present at the Olympics, per Total Pro Sports.

Newsweek contacted the NHL for comment via online form on Wednesday, outside of standard working hours.

This is a developing story, more to follow.
