WALDORF, Md. — The SOMD Sabres will host a Try Hockey for Free event on Saturday, March 7, 2026, giving children ages 4 to 9 the opportunity to experience hockey in a fun and safe environment with trained coaches.
The event will take place from 10:10 a.m. to 11:10 a.m. at Capital Clubhouse, 3033 Waldorf Market Place, Waldorf, MD 20603.
Designed for first-time players, the program focuses on introducing basic youth hockey skills while creating a positive and welcoming on-ice experience. No prior experience is necessary, and coaches will be available throughout the session to assist participants and answer questions.
What To Bring
Participants who have hockey equipment are encouraged to bring it. Those without equipment should bring:
Loose-fitting sweatpants or snow pants
Gloves (hockey gloves not required; mittens are acceptable)
A helmet
What’s Provided
The Sabres will supply:
Ice skates
A limited amount of loaner equipment
On-ice instruction from trained coaching staff
During the on-ice session, players will be guided by experienced coaches as they learn basic skating, puck control and introductory game play, giving them a fun and supportive first experience in youth hockey.
