Shedeur Sanders helped to welcome Todd Monken as the new head coach of the Cleveland Browns with a surprise birthday gift.

Speaking to CBS Sports from the NFL scouting combine, Monken revealed Sanders sent him a porcelain horse head as a gift.

Anyone who is familiar with The Godfather knows that a horse head is typically a bad omen, but Monken explained that Sanders said he “just really liked it” and even bought one for himself.

Monken was hired as Cleveland’s new head coach on Jan. 28 after he spent the past three seasons as offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens. He turned 60 years old on Feb. 5, so Sanders’ gift was a nice welcome moment for him.

The big question for Monken and the Browns heading into free agency is determining what to do with their quarterback room. General manager Andrew Berry declined to name anyone currently on the roster, including Sanders, as the starter on the offseason depth chart.

Sanders was put in a difficult situation when he took over as Cleveland’s starter in Week 12 last season. He struggled in those seven games, finishing with 1,353 yards, seven touchdowns, nine interceptions and a 59.2 completion percentage.

Cleveland overhauled its coaching staff, bringing in Monken, to give the team a fresh start. He will be taking over a franchise that has an 8-26 record over the past two seasons and hasn’t won a playoff game since January 2021.
