Veteran forward Evander Kane shared his thoughts post-game on the Vancouver Canucks’ recent decision with defenseman Tyler Myers, who is expected to be traded.
Kane, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent on Canada Day, is drawing interest from several clubs around the National Hockey League, including some Stanley Cup contenders like the Colorado Avalanche and Dallas Stars, and all signs point to him being moved relatively soon.
“A number of these teams who are interested in Evander Kane might do the exact same thing, which would stand in the way of Vancouver obviously getting something done this week. But based on the sources I have there, it does feel like there’s enough interest around Kane that it is plausible, if not likely, that something gets done this week.” TSN’s Darren Dreger said.

While a lot of the attention in Vancouver has been on their pending unrestricted free agents, the front office has also been pondering if they’re willing to make any bigger moves, potentially including players with term remaining on their contract.
On Wednesday night, the Vancouver Canucks got one step closer to making that a reality as less than three hours before puck drop for their game against the Winnipeg Jets, the club announced on social media that Tyler Myers was being held out of the lineup, citing “roster management purposes”, meaning that they’re likely in discussions with another team about a trade involving the blueliner.
“General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that D Tyler Myers will not play tonight against the Winnipeg Jets for roster management purposes.” the Canucks said.
Without Myers in the lineup, the Vancouver Canucks would go on to fall to the Winnipeg Jets in overtime by a score of 3-2 and afterwards, Evander Kane gave his thoughts on the club moving closer to trading the veteran defenseman.
Kane told reporters that it’s been nice to be teammates with Tyler Myers this season after playing against each other for the entirely of their respective careers and that it’s been good to have him on the roster as one of the few veteran players in the group.
“It’s been good to have him, one of the few older guys that we have on the roster, and one of the few Canadian guys.” Kane said according to Trevor Beggs of Daily Hive.
He added, “It’s been nice having him as a teammate.”
With just eight days to go until the trade deadline, it’s nice to see that the Canucks are taking their rebuild seriously and hopefully Patrik Allvin will be able to get some assets that can help this team in both the short and long-term, whether that be prospects or young players already in the league.
