Nazem Kadri trade talk is heating up as Nick Kypreos reports the Montreal Canadiens are one of six NHL teams actively in the mix for the veteran center.
The 35-year-old veteran would not mind finishing his career under the bright lights of the Bell Centre. It’s fair to say his character and experience would be major assets in supporting our young players.
In Calgary, Kadri is having a respectable season with 12 goals and 29 assists in 57 games played. Despite a -22 rating on a struggling team, his offensive impact remains very real.

“Re Nazem Kadri: There are six teams believed to be in on this, including Dallas, Carolina and Montreal.”

Here’s where it gets complicated: his $7 million per year deal runs through 2029. That’s a heavy commitment for a power forward who will turn 38 before the contract expires.
Let’s be honest, the Flames would most likely need to retain part of the salary to make it work. No one wants to block the development of a prospect like Michael Hage for a player on the decline.
Last night, insider Chris Johnston also mentioned that the Canadiens like the player, but not necessarily his contract. The battle is shaping up to be fierce, with Dallas and Carolina also in the picture.
If Hughes manages to lower the acquisition cost, it could be a significant addition to the team’s offensive rebuild. This will be closely monitored leading up to the March 6 trade deadline.
