A new trade proposal this week would see Vancouver Canucks veteran defenseman Tyler Myers head to the Eastern Conference as a contending team looks to load up.

“General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that D Tyler Myers will not play tonight against the Winnipeg Jets for roster management purposes.” the Canucks said.

While a deal still hasn’t materialized, the expectation is that Myers will be moved ahead of the trade deadline, which is only one week away, and it looks like a number of teams have expressed interest in the Houston, Texas native from both conferences, as several contenders are looking to add some depth on the blue line.

Tyler Myers traded to Eastern Conference contender in new proposal

“With the Red Wings in need of another right-shot defenseman, it makes all the sense in the world that they are interested in Myers. He would improve the right side of their defense nicely and would be a good veteran for Detroit to have as they look to get into the playoffs for the first time in nine years.” DeRosa said.

Myers, 36, has been linked to the Detroit Red Wings in recent days, with General Manager Steve Yzerman making an offer for him, according to TSN insider Chris Johnston, but the Canucks defenseman doesn’t appear to keen on heading to The Motor City.

While the Red Wings will continue to push for Tyler Myers over the next seven days, there are a handful of other clubs to keep an eye on as well, including the Dallas Stars, Edmonton Oilers and potentially even the San Jose Sharks, who are looking for their first trip to the Stanley Cup Playoffs since 2019.

After parts of seven seasons in Vancouver, it’s going to be hard to see Tyler Myers leave, he’s a great leader, works hard day in, day out and is reliable when playing in a third pairing role and wherever he ends up, whether it’s Dallas, Detroit or somewhere else, they’re going to be very lucky to have him.
