According to Jimmy Murphy of RG.org, there are seven teams who have interest in Maple Leafs forward Bobby McMann as Toronto looks ahead to the trade deadline.
That means McMann is likely gone and he could end up bringing back quite the haul for Toronto depending on which team nabs him, and even though a first-rounder would be great, even a couple second-rounders and a prospect would do wonders.
McMann starting to garner serious interest from nearly 1/4 of the NHL
It becomes a matter of who gets him now, and with the Oilers heavily interested it feels like out west is where he’ll go, though they aren’t the only interested party.
According to Jimmy Murphy of RG.org, there are a whopping seven teams who have interest in McMann as Toronto mulls their decision heading into March 6th:
In addition to the Oilers, the San Jose Sharks, Seattle Kraken, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, and Tampa Bay Lightning are all teams that RG has heard linked to McMann.
That’s quite the list of interested parties and they range from division rivals to Cup contenders to rebuilding squads. It seems like everyone wants their hands on the late-bloomer and for good reason too.
Why teams are going to fight over Bobby McMann
At $1.35-million for the rest of the year he’s a bargain basement deal for a 20-goal power forward with elite speed and physicality. Not to mention you have someone who is still going to be impactful for a few more years and there’s a lot of appeal there.
With the team holding a total of five picks in the next three years within the first three rounds; it’s a bare cupboard that needs restocking and a deal for McMann could bring them back not only picks but a potential prospect if they play their cards right.
For his career, McMann has 91 points in 198 games (54 goals, 37 assists) and while they aren’t eye-popping numbers, he just came into his own last year.
Toronto would be doing themselves a disservice to ignore one of the several interested parties, especially if they can’t bring McMann back cheaply, and it’s a matter of when, not if, McMann wears new colours this season.
