The Vancouver Canucks have issued a statement on social media regarding former first round pick Jonathan Lekkerimaki and his status for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

There’s no question that this season was going to be a big one for Jonathan Lekkerimaki, the team’s first round pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, as the Canucks wanted to see if he had what it takes to make the jump to the National Hockey League on a full-time basis.

In a social media post on Friday, the Vancouver Canucks confirmed those reports, announcing that Jonathan Lekkerimaki underwent shoulder surgery this week, which was a success, and that he’ll be ready to go for the team’s training camp in September.

“General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that F Jonathan Lekkerimäki underwent successful surgery yesterday. Following his rehab, he will be ready for training camp in September.” the Canucks said.

This is tough news for both Jonathan Lekkerimaki and the Vancouver Canucks, with the former starting to hitting his stride offensively in the American Hockey League and could’ve been a key factor in the NHL once Patrik Allvin moved on from his pending UFAs at the trade deadline.

The good part of this however is that he’ll be ready for training camp and it’s going to be a big opportunity for Lekkerimaki to prove himself and to show that he’s done with the AHL and ready to not just be in the National Hockey League, but be an impact player for Vancouver during their rebuild.

In 13 games this season for the Vancouver Canucks, the 21-year-old registered three points (two goals, one assist), no penalty minutes and was a minus-three while averaging 11:40 of ice time.
