The atmosphere was electric at the Bell Centre last night.

Let’s be honest, watching the Montreal Canadiens dismantle the Capitals 6-2 does wonders for team morale before heading out West.

Josh Anderson took control of the locker room to present the famous wolf head. The suspense lasted quite a while before he finally revealed his choice in front of his teammates.

Jakub Dobes could have had it, no question. Nicknamed “Dobby,” the netminder was on fire, delivering a solid performance to shut down the opposing attacks.

In the end, it was Cole Caufield, our “Mr. Saturday Night,” who received the honor. The American was dominant, scoring his 34th and 35th goals of the current campaign.

It’s simple: Caufield is in a class of his own this season. He finished the game with a +2 rating and two goals.

At his side, young Ivan Demidov wore a wide smile. The chemistry between the two organizational prospects is obvious, and the future looks bright.

A clear message before the trip

Let’s admit it, Cole’s speech after receiving the fur fired everyone up. “Let’s go on the road,” he said confidently to rally the group.

Martin St-Louis’ squad is leaving Montreal this morning for a stretch of games on the West Coast. This California swing always represents a physical challenge for the players.

The Canadiens currently hold a 33-17-9 record and is looking to build on this quick turnaround. You can sense that the group is more united than ever this season.

Everyone will sleep well tonight before boarding the plane. Winning in that fashion, with such efficiency, is exactly what was needed to kick off the month of March.

We will be watching closely to see if that energy carries over into opposing arenas. Montreal fans can be proud of the performance delivered against Ovechkin’s group.
