There are bigger deals to come before the Friday, March 6 NHL trade deadline.
But the Minnesota Wild and Philadelphia Flyers got to work on making some things happen with a Sunday night swap.
The teams announced the deal:
The Wild get defenseman Roman Schmidt. The Flyers get forward Boris Katchouk.
The 23-year old Schmidt is a 6-foot-5 defenseman.
He was originally a third-round pick by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2021 NHL Draft.
Schmidt was traded in December to the Flyers, and now he’s been traded again.
He has spent the season in the AHL with Syracuse and then Lehigh Valley, and he has just one assist in 29 games at that level.

Schmidt is mostly a physical presence and not much more, and he’ll likely stick down in the AHL with Iowa.
Katchouk is a 27-year old with 179 NHL games in his career.
He was a second-round pick, also by Tampa Bay, in 2016.
He played in 117 games for the Chicago Blackhawks between 2021-24, recording 26 points in that span.Â
He then played in the NHL for Ottawa in 2024.
Katchouk recorded 49 AHL points in 67 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in 2024-25.
Now he heads to Lehigh Valley from Iowa, remaining in the AHL, as well.
This deal is probably nothing more than a reallocation of resources, but maybe it starts the ball rolling on trade week in the NHL.
