The Detroit Red Wings came out for the second period of their game today against the Nashville Predators. One noticeable player wasn’t out there as Cam Talbot is now in Detroit’s net, and John Gibson is out with an upper-body injury. The Red Wings and Predators are currently tied at 1-1. Gibson left a start earlier this season against the Anaheim Ducks when he had collided with another player in the second period of that game. It comes at an interesting time with the trade deadline looming and the Red Wings clinging to a playoff spot as the calendar flips to March, a month they’ve struggled in in previous seasons.
Gibson had stopped ten of the 11 shots he faced before leaving the game. This season, entering today’s game, in 38 games, is 23-12-2. He’s posting a 2.57 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage, and four shutouts. Gibson had taken over the starter’s role this season after he got red hot and had a dominating stretch in January.
