According to The Real Kyper and Bourne Show, the Maple Leafs may be eyeing St. Louis Blues GM Doug Armstrong as Brad Treliving’s replacement to lead the team.
Brad Treliving’s future as the GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs is something that has been a discussion point for the better part of the entire 2025-26 season. After such high expectations and a bunch of roster changes, they’ve tumbled to last in the Atlantic and look to be sellers come this Friday’s deadline.
But who would even replace him? There’s been talks of Jim Nill heading over once his contract with the Dallas Stars is complete, but according to former GM and analyst Doug MacLean — there’s one big name also in play.
Toronto could be In play for a new GM — and it’s one of the best
What’s gonna happen? Do they clean house, who are they gonna bring in? I keep hearing Doug Armstrong is gonna be the next GM, I mean this…if you tear this apart it’s a long rebuild.
If that’s the case, then the Maple Leafs may be in the best hands possible considering how respected and frankly, good Armstrong is as a GM.
Not only does he lead the Blues, but also in charge of Team Canada, so if there’s anyone who understands the pressure of building a winning team, it’s him.
Why Toronto fans should be excited if Doug Armstrong is named GM
Let’s see the players drafted under Armstrong since his tenure started with the Blues a decade and a half ago:
– Jordan Binnington
– Jaden Schwartz
– Colton Parayko
– Ivan Barbashev
– Jordan Kyrou
– Tage Thompson
– Robert Thomas
– Jake Neighbours
Well, you have three Olympians, multiple Cup winners, former 40-goal scorers, and just a wealth of smart decisions.
Then look at who he was able to sign throughout his time thus far:
– Martin Brodeur
– Ryan O’Reilly
– Vladimir Tarasenko
– Paul Stastny
– Jay Bouwmeester
– Alex Pietrangelo
Combine the two and you have an incredible track record of signings and drafting as players know how committed Armstrong is to winning; of which he has before.
Contrast that with Brad Treliving’s career path and it is completely night and day. While Treliving traded away the likes of Matthew Tkachuk, Sam Bennett, and Mitch Marner; Armstrong always seemed to add exactly what was needed.
That’s a sign of a GM who knows how to build a team that is not only exciting to watch on the ice, but one that consistently finds success even in the toughest times.
With a lot of pressure in the coming days for Treliving, he may not be the one to run the show much longer in Toronto. But bringing in someone like Armstrong to replace him would not only be a smart decision — but one that may save the Maple Leafs.
