ST. PAUL, Minn. (Northern News Now) – On Tuesday, St. Paul and the Minnesota Wild announced a framework to fund renovations at the Grand Casino Arena.
According to city leaders, the renovations will cost around $600 million total.
$450 million of that will go toward the Grand Casino Arena, and the other $150 million will go to the RiverCentre and Roy Wilkins Auditorium.
St. Paul leaders plan to ask state lawmakers for $200 million of the total funds.
In the current financial plan, the city of St. Paul will fund more than $160 million for the arena through a half-cent sales tax.
The Wild will privately fund the same amount.

“The Grand Casino Arena, River Center, and Roy Wilkins Auditorium are vital gathering places for cultural events, conventions, and sports, and they drive economic activity across our state,” said St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her.
Minnesota Wild’s owner also spoke at Tuesday’s event, saying the renovations at the arena would likely take place during the summer to not disrupt the Wild’s schedule.
As for renovations to the Grand Casino Arena, officials say more locker rooms and facilities for artists to use are needed.
