The Vancouver Canucks appear to be closer to making a trade as a new report suggests that GM Patrik Allvin is in serious discussions to move Conor Garland.

It’s been a quiet few days on the trade market, but with deadline set for Friday at 12 pm PT, the Vancouver Canucks have plenty of work to do if they’re going to accomplish their goal of getting younger amid their rebuild.

Among those on the Vancouver Canucks that have drawn interest in recent weeks include 29-year-old forward Conor Garland, who signed a long-term contract extension with the club last summer and before his no-movement clause kicks in on July 1st, it looks like the front office is at least considering moving on from him before Friday afternoon.

Garland has drawn interest from several teams recently, among them being the Boston Bruins in his home state of Massachusetts, however it looks like the Vancouver Canucks winger could be heading a bit further south with trade talks heating up throughout the day on Tuesday.

Eastern Conference club in serious discussions with Vancouver Canucks for Conor Garland

On Tuesday afternoon, Stefan Rosner of NHL.com reported that the Vancouver Canucks and New York Islanders were in serious talks about a trade involving Conor Garland, with potentially another piece going from the Lower Mainland to Long Island.

Rosner went on to add that he’s also hearing that Tyler Myers’ name has been brought up in discussions, with the Islander previously having interest in the veteran blueliner at the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.

“There are serious discussions happening between #Isles & #Canucks.

Been told it’s surrounding Garland. But was also told that it could be Garland +.

We’ll see how this plays out.” Rosner said.

In another post, he added, “I believe Tyler Myers has been discussed. He’s got a full NTC though so unclear at this moment.

Believe NYI had discussions about Myers back at 2022 NHL Draft before a deal fell through on draft floor. #Isles”

Vancouver and the New York Islanders have a bit of trade history, with Patrik Allvin dealing former captain Bo Horvat to them in January 2023 for a package that included a first round pick and centerman Aatu Raty.

We’ll have to wait and see what the coming days have in store, but it looks like we could be nearing the end of the Conor Garland era in Vancouver after 370 games across parts of five seasons.
