The Pittsburgh Penguins delivered a strong road effort against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night, but it wasn’t quite good enough for the win.

The Penguins were unable to snap the Bruins’ impressive home winning streak at TD Garden, which reached 11 games with Boston’s 2-1 victory. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh saw its five-game point streak come to an end.

All three of the game’s goals came in the first period, starting with Erik Karlsson’s just 42 seconds in.

The Penguins weren’t able to hold their early lead for long, however, allowing two goals 50 seconds apart later in the period. Marat Khusnutdinov tied the game for the Bruins shortly before Casey Mittelstadt gave them the lead for good.

Both goalies buckled down after that, turning in sharp performances. Jeremy Swayman protected the net for Boston with 34 saves, including 28 in the second and third periods combined. Meanwhile, Stuart Skinner turned away 26 shots for Pittsburgh.

The Penguins will host the Bruins for a rematch on Sunday at PPG Paints Arena, capping off a three-game homestand. In the meantime, Pittsburgh will try to bounce back at home against the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday and the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday.
