Last Thursday, the Philadelphia Flyers picked up their first win in overtime since Nov. 20. On Monday night, they finished off their first three-game winning streak since Nov. 29. Their last shootout win happened to come during that streak.
The Flyers gave up a late game-tying goal on the power play to the Toronto Maple Leafs, but finished the job in the shootout for a 3-2 win at Scotiabank Arena.
How It Happened
The Leafs struck for the game’s first goal at 15:22. Dakota Joshua took advantage of a turnover for his seventh goal of the season. The Flyers tied the game late in the first on the power play. Christian Dvorak scored his 13th goal of the season digging away in the crease to even things at one.
Toronto controlled play in the second, outshooting the Flyers, 11-4, in a scoreless period.
With 5:18 remaining in the third, Noah Cates found the back of the net to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead. The Leafs tied things back up on a power play with 2:30 remaining, as William Nylander ripped a one-timer for his 20th goal of the season.
That forced overtime and an eventual shootout. The Flyers got goals from both Matvei Michkov and Trevor Zegras to come back from a Nylander goal in the first round. Dan Vladar sealed the win with a save on Max Domi.

⭐ Noah Cates — A two-point night for Cates, who put the Flyers ahead late in the third.
⭐⭐ Dan Vladar — Another game with two goals or fewer allowed. Vladar nearly got the job done in regulation, but shut the door in the shootout to secure the two points.
⭐⭐⭐ William Nylander — Scored the tying goal on the power play and scored in the shootout. He did his part for an otherwise struggling Toronto team.
The Takeaway
Don’t look now, but the Flyers have their most successful stretch of games in over two months. A three-game winning streak has moved them back to within four points of a playoff spot, and while that is still a longshot, the team has emerged from the Olympic break with a 3-1-0 record and has a 4-1-1 record in their last six games. It may be too little too late, but with 22 games to go, the Flyers have certainly re-entered the conversation as the trade deadline looms.
