The Vegas Golden Knights (28-19-4) and the Detroit Red Wings (35-20-6) meet Wednesday at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Golden Knights vs. Red Wings and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.
Season series: Golden Knights lead 1-0
These teams met at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Nov. 4, with the Golden Knights posting a 1-0 win as heavy favorites (-195) as the Under (6.5) obviously came through. LW Ivan Barbashev provided the only offense, while G Akira Schmid stopped 24 shots. It was a hard-luck loss for G John Gibson, who turned aside 33 of 34 shots.
VGK wraps up a 5-game road trip in Detroit. The road trip started off with a 6-4 win at the Los Angeles Kings as moderate underdogs (+150) out of the Olympics break, but the Golden Knights have lost 3 in a row, getting outscored 11-4 in the process. The Under has cashed in all 3 losses due to the offensive power outage.
The Red Wings doubled up the Nashville Predators 4-2 Monday as light road favorites (-115) as the total (6) pushed at most shops. The Red Wings are 3-2-0 in the past 5 games, all on the road, while going 5-2-1 across the past 8 away outings. The Under is 4-1-1 in the past 6 contests.

Adin Hill (5-4-3, 3.46 GAA, .858 SV%) vs. Cam Talbot (12-8-4, 3.04 GAA, .891 SV%)
Hill allowed 5 goals on 22 shots in a 5-0 loss in Pittsburgh, snapping a modest 2-start win streak. He has allowed 3 or more goals in 5 of his past 6 starting assignments.
Talbot kicked aside 18 of 19 shots in the win in Nashville Monday. Gibson is battling an upper-body injury, so Sebastian Cossa was promoted from Grand Rapids of the AHL to serve as the backup. There is likely no way Cossa is used, if it can be helped.
Golden Knights at Red Wings picks and predictionsPrediction
Red Wings 3, Golden Knights 2
The RED WINGS (-135) are a pretty solid play as moderate favorites against the Golden Knights.
Detroit is within 4 points of the Tampa Bay Lightning for first place in the Atlantic Division, although the Lightning have 2 games in hand. Still, the Red Wings are playing well this season, and on a mission to return to the postseason. The Red Wings are 18-10-2 at home, too, and playing much better lately than the Golden Knights, who have stumbled recently.
The Red Wings -1.5 (+180) should get the win, but backing them on the puck line is a little much in this marquee game.
On the flip side, the Golden Knights +1.5 (-220) cannot be trusted, and risking more than twice as much as your return is not recommended.
AVOID.
UNDER 6 (-115) is the lean, but go lightly.
The Golden Knights have averaged just 1.33 goals per game in the past 3 games, cashing the Under in each of those games.
For the Red Wings, the Under is 4-1-1 in the past 6 outings, and 8-4-2 across the previous 14 contests.
