The Detroit Red Wings squandered a 3-1 lead and lost 4-3 in overtime to the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday.
Tomas Hertl scored a power-play goal 2:11 into the OT session to earn Vegas the victory.
The Red Wings scored three first-period goals and took a 3-1 lead into the final period of regulation. Emmitt Finnie, Simon Edvinsson, and Alex DeBrincat scored for the Red Wings. Reilly Smith, Ivan Barbashev, and Mitch Marner also scored for the Golden Knights.
Cam Talbot made 21 saves while taking the loss for Detroit. The Red Wings are 2-1-1 since returning to action following the NHL’s Olympic break.
It was Detroit’s first home game since January 31.

Detroit forward Mason Appleton put the puck in the net with 16.7 seconds left in regulation, but it didn’t count because he swatted the puck into the net with his gloved hand . . . Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin left the game late in the third period following a net-front crosscheck from Vegas defenseman Brayden McNabb. He was back for the OT session.
