The Colorado Avalanche have the best record in the NHL with a 41-10-9 record and 91 points in 60 games this season. They have struck a deal with the Nashville Predators tonight to acquire Nick Blackenburg, while the Avalanche sends a fifth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft in return. The Predators continue to sell off pieces one by one, as Cole Smith was traded earlier today to the Vegas Golden Knights in return for Christoff Sedoff and a 2028 3rd round pick.

Nick Blackenburg
Blackenburg has played in 49 games this season for the Predators. He has six goals, 15 assists for 21 total points, and has a -11 rating this season. While with the Predators, Blackenburg averaged 17:53 minutes a game. He is a right-shot defenseman known for his aggressive physical play, strong skating, and ability to contribute offensively. In his last five games, he has not recorded a point, is a minus three and had five shots.
Colorado Avalanche
The Avalanche acquired defenseman Brett Kulak in exchange for Samuel Girard back on February 24th in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Colorado look to be solidifying their back end before the final push toward their hopeful deep playoff run. The Avalanche have been rumored to be interested in adding forward depth as well, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens in the time left before Friday’s deadline.
