The 2025-26 NHL Trade Deadline is almost here, and we have hockey to be played. Dig in. Tonight’s all-Canadian edition of NHL Predictions showcases the Ottawa Senators at the Calgary Flames. Follow with us as we bring stats, storylines, and analysis, to decide who will emerge victorious.
NHL Predictions Flames and Senators
Season Series: The Sens won 4-3 in overtime back in October in their only other meeting this season.
Puck Drop: 9:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) | 7:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time (MST)
How to Watch: Sportsnet West (Flames Region), TSN5, RDS
Location: The famous Scotiabank Saddledome, live from Calgary, Alberta.
Tonight’s matchup features a couple of teams that are going in (somewhat) opposite directions. That is more so from an organizational standpoint. The Sens are 6-1-2 in their last nine games, and need to keep winning. Meanwhile, Calgary is 3-5-2 in their last 10.
Calgary’s Story
Calgary does have elements of a very strong team. They had (more) veteran leadership before MacKenzie Weegar was traded to the Utah Mammoth yesterday. However, they brought in more for the future. Guys like Dustin Wolf and Zayne Parekh are the future in Calgary. But for now, it looks like it could be a busy trade deadline for general manager Craig Conroy and crew as sellers.
Nazem Kadri, Blake Coleman, are all names teams are seeking to add for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. For tonight’s matchup, they are part of what makes Calgary so difficult to play against.
Ottawa Needs Wins
The Sens are an organization in flux. They were wondering how to improve upon from 2025-26. Letting crucial points get away from them, like they did last time out versus the Edmonton Oilers, might come back to haunt them. They were winning that one 4-2 going into the third, but eventually lost 5-4 in overtime.
The key for Ottawa is to use their strong team play, and get an early lead. That way, they should be able to carry their strong 5v5 play through the game.
Coming into this one, Ottawa is hanging on, but barely. They are listed with a 37.8% shot at the playoffs. Any more missed points, and it becomes very difficult. On the other hand, Calgary has a 9.5% at a lottery draft win. They are more focused on the future, so hopefully, the atmosphere is right for Ottawa.
The Goalies
The goaltending matchup is expected to be Linus Ullmark (17-8-6) against Dustin Wolf (17-22-3).
However, it is a great time for our disclaimer. Please check social media prior to puck drop, to see definitely who gets the nod, before setting your fantasy roster for the day.
NHL Predictions
Ottawa needs these two points before their Stanley Cup Playoff aspirations slip away. We think they bounce back after the tough loss to Edmonton two nights ago.
Prediction: Flames 2 – Senators 4
Prop Bets
We went big last time out, but missed on our not-so-often used player shot on goal total. Therefore, we will stick with a pair of anytime goal scorers, as per usual. For Ottawa, let’s stick with Dylan Cozens. He’s playing very well lately and being rewarded. For Calgary, we will take Nazem Kadri. He might want to boost his trade stock, if he does end up going anywhere.
