Kevin Korchniski has been assigned to the Rockford IceHogs Thursday afternoon. The move comes with Wyatt Kaiser being prepared to play Friday.

When news broke that defenseman Kevin Korchinski was being assigned to the Rockford IceHogs, very few people were surprised. After being used as an extra body in the absence of defenseman Sam Rinzel, Korchinski was scratched in favor of Ethan Del Mastro days later. In his two games played in this stint, Korchinski logged only 18 minutes. In Year 3, it’s been a far cry from his projected potential.

Defenseman Wyatt Kaiser was also activated on Thursday. The 23-year-old from Minnesota has come into his own this season. In 57 games through this campaign, Kaiser has five goals and 12 points, a bright spot on Chicago’s young blue line. In the final game before the Olympic break, Columbus’ Zach Werenski fell on top of Kaiser’s knee, causing an unspecified sprain.

What It Means: Chicago Blackhawks

If you are Kyle Davidson, you are shaking your head right now. The first pick of the general manager’s tenure has bust written all over it. After a turbulent first season with the Chicago Blackhawks, defenseman Kevin Korchinski has not looked good, to say the least. Despite winning the AHL All-Star Game MVP in 2025, Korchinski hasn’t been able to find sustained success at the NHL level. And after another send-down, the writing looks to be on the wall for the former first-round pick.

On tap for the Blackhawks is a United Center showdown against the Vancouver Canucks on March 8. The game will take place after the 2 p.m. CT trade deadline, with puck drop at 7 p.m. CT.
