Boston Bruins General Manager is still navigating through what many believe to be a buyer’s market as the NHL trade deadline approaches on Friday. Sweeney is said to be aggressive in trying to acquire a top-six forward or right-shot defenseman with term. The plan is to utilize assets that the Bruins have stockpiled over the past year to acquire one or two players who will help the team in their current playoff push and beyond. But trade prospects are dwindling, and the Boston Bruins seem to be heading to a rather uneventful trade deadline.

One team that the Bruins could find as a trade partner is the Winnipeg Jets. It has been a largely disappointing season in Winnipeg, and that, combined with salary cap issues, should cause the Jets to unload a couple of players with value. Defenseman Logan Stanley is up for an extension, and talks with the 6-foot-7, 230-pound blueliner have begun. However, the cost could be prohibitive, and the Jets could look to deal the 2016 first-round draft pick. Stanley is a left-shot defenseman but would be an upgrade for Boston over Mason Lohrei. Forward Cole Perfetti is a 22-year-old restricted free agent with arbitration rights. The Jets like Perfetti and would love to sign an extension. The Jets might sign Perfetti to a one-year bridge deal to give them some time to come to a long-term contract agreement. But, if not, Perfetti would be a nice fit and upgrade on a potential third line in Boston centered by 21-year-old Fraser Minten. Perfetti totaled 50 points last season and plays a hard-nosed game that Boston would value.

During a recent game between the Winnipeg Jets and the Chicago Blackhawks, the Bruins had an assistant general manager and a scout in attendance. Reports indicate that the Bruins were in talks with the Jets about a potential deal. Two other players on the radar for the Bruins are Dylan Demelo and Brad Lambert. Demelo is a 32-year-old, right-shot defenseman who has two years left on a contract with a salary cap hit of $4.9 million. Demelo would fill a void left by the departing Andrew Peeke, who is a solid penalty killer for the Bruins. Lambert is a 23-year-old forward who has spent most of his time with Manitoba of the American Hockey League. The 2022 first-round draft pick has registered 13 points this season in the AHL and played just four NHL games. Boston could see Lambert the same way they targeted Fraser Minten last season when they acquired him from Toronto at the trade deadline last season.

The Bruins have needs at forward and defense, as well as assets that they lacked in previous seasons. But Sweeney has said that he will be cautious in trade talks and might end up making a minor move to help the Bruins make the postseason after missing the playoffs last season. As in most scenarios, Boston is in on several players around the league. Expect the Bruins to largely stand pat and make roster decisions in the offseason.
