The Colorado Avalanche and Toronto Maple Leafs agreed to a trade today that will send forward Nicolas Roy to Colorado. The Maple Leafs are getting back a 2017 top-ten protected draft pick; if it is, then it’ll become a 2028 unprotected draft pick. Toronto is also getting a 2026 conditional fifth-round draft pick. Colorado has three fifth-round draft picks in 2026; Toronto will receive the lowest of the three picks. Roy is in his first season with Toronto after being traded this past offseason. This season, with Toronto has 20 points on five goals and 15 assists. He’s an even in plus/minus with a power-play goal and a 52.9 faceoff percentage.

Nicolas Roy

The Carolina Hurricanes drafted Roy 96th overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. He made his debut on April 7, 2018. Roy appeared in seven games with the Hurricanes. He didn’t record a point, and he was a minus-one with a 55.1 faceoff percentage. He then joined the Golden Knights, where he recorded his first NHL point on a goal on October 27, 2019. Roy spent six seasons in Vegas, appearing in 362 games, recording 166 points on 68 goals and 98 assists. He was a +38 with nine power-play goals, a shorthanded goal, 15 game-winning goals, and 47.6 faceoff percentage. He won a Stanley Cup in Vegas in 2023. Roy has appeared in 79 Stanley Cup Playoff games, recording 32 points on ten goals and 22 assists. He was an even in plus/minus with a power-play goal, three game-winning goals, and a 49.9 faceoff percentage.
