Lukas Reichel is headed to the Boston Bruins at the NHL trade deadline, and the Vancouver Canucks basically blinked first.

Boston paid a 2026 sixth-round pick, the kind of chip you toss in when you want upside without pain.

Reichel is 23, a 2020 first-rounder, drafted 17th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks.

He never really found traction in Vancouver, logging 14 NHL games as a Canuck and putting up 0-1-1.

Most of his season lived in Abbotsford, where he posted 6-7-13 in 23 AHL games and flashed some confidence again.

Boston’s angle is obvious, Reichel is a quick-twitch winger who can play with pace and help a line carry the puck through the neutral zone.

The contract piece matters too, he’s on a $1.2 million cap hit and is set up as an RFA after this season.

Lukas Reichel gives the Boston Bruins a swing

Bruins fans will love the low risk, but they’ll also be impatient if the points don’t show up fast.

If Reichel pops, he’s a sneaky top-six fit next to a distributor, and he can juice a second power play just by attacking seams.

If he doesn’t, Boston can shelter him lower in the lineup and still call the bet a fair one for a sixth.

For Vancouver, this is deadline selling in a nutshell, flip a player who didn’t click and grab another pick for the rebuild.

It also underlines how busy the day has been for the Canucks, even beyond Reichel.

Conor Garland is already out the door to the Columbus Blue Jackets for a 2028 second and a 2026 third, a real haul for a winger with term coming.

And David Kampf was moved to the Washington Capitals as the Canucks kept turning veterans into assets.

When you’re sitting dead last with 43 points, you don’t need pretty deadlines, you need volume and flexibility for what comes next.
