The Philadelphia Flyers’ trade deadline activity started on Friday morning with the trade of Bobby Brink to Minnesota for defenseman David Jiricek. In the afternoon hours leading to the deadline, the Flyers made two more trades, one primarily on the minor league side. The other involved a veteran forward getting an opportunity to go to a contender.
The Flyers traded Nic Deslauriers to the Carolina Hurricanes for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2027. They made a minor-league trade with the Boston Bruins, swapping forwards Massimo Rizzo and Alexis Gendron for forward Brett Harrison and defenseman Jackson Edward. But it was the deal that didn’t happen that has everyone talking.
Rasmus Ristolainen stayed put on the Flyers after no team could meet the Flyers’ asking price. At the wire, another right-handed defenseman, Justin Faulk, was traded from St. Louis to Detroit for a first-round pick and a third-round pick.
Deslauriers, 35, spent the last four seasons with the Flyers. He appeared in 195 games with nine goals and 20 points.
Ristolainen still has one season remaining on his contract at a $5.1 million cap hit.
The Flyers also added one player ahead of the trade deadline, but via a waiver claim. The Flyers claimed center Luke Glendening off waivers from the New Jersey Devils.
Glendening, 36, is expected to fill a fourth-line center role. He has four assists in 52 games this season. He had previous stops in Detroit, Dallas, and Tampa Bay.
Glendening will be available as the Flyers take on the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday afternoon at 5:30 PM.
