A pair of teams have emerged as legit landing spots for the National Hockey League’s top free agent, Mitch Marner, who has spent his entire career with Toronto. The National Hockey League’s free agent period is set to get underway in five weeks and the Vancouver Canucks are going to be among many teams that are expected to be aggressive and with a number of top free agents available starting on Canada Day, it’s going to be interesting to see who ends up where. While Patrik Allvin has a big decision to make with pending unrestricted free agent forward Brock Boeser, another Canadian team is pondering what they’re going to do with a star of their own.

Two teams reportedly atop Mitch Marner’s list with free agency looming

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is undoubtedly the top free agent that’ll be available as of July 1st and after registering his first 100-point season and four straight years of 85+ points, not only is he in line for a big pay day, he’s also going to garner a ton of interest.

During an appearance on TSN 1050 radio, NHL insider Pierre LeBrun gave a pretty big update on the teams that will be interested in Mitch Marner, if he does indeed hit the open market, as well as a pair of franchises that the pending UFA forward would like to play for.

According to LeBrun, the Anaheim Ducks, Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings and Los Angeles Kings are four teams that have interest in Mitch Marner this summer.

LeBrun also shared that Mitch Marner would have interest in playing for the Florida Panthers and Vegas Golden Knights, among other teams.

“Pierre LeBrun: Anaheim, Detroit, Chicago, Los Angeles among teams interested in Marner; Florida, Vegas are of interest to Marner, among others – TSN 1050” NHL Rumor Report said on X.

While some Canucks fans were hoping Vancouver to try and sign Mitch Marner this summer, it seems extremely unlikely that would happen give that the Markham, Ontario native is expected to land a contract in the range of $13+ million AAV.

While Patrik Allvin would like to bring in a top-six winger if Brock Boeser leaves on July 1st they’ll have to turn their attention elsewhere in order to fill that hole as Mitch Marner is an unrealistic option for the club.
