Northeastern’s historic Matthews Arena torn down to make way for new one

Demolition began on Northeastern University’s historic Matthews Arena Saturday afternoon.The university said the process will take about three months and the demolition will make way for a brand new arena, scheduled to be finished in 2028.The storied athletic facility opened back in 1910.It was the world’s oldest ice hockey arena and original home of the Boston Bruins, Celtics, and the Beanpot.Matthews Arena was also known as the Boston Arena.
