Dylan Larkin isn’t playing today and he’s day-to-day. The Detroit Red Wings are 3-5-2 in their last 10 games. They have dropped into a wildcard spot. The Columbus Blue Jackets and Ottawa Senators are both 7-1-2 in their last 10 games and are closing in on the two wildcard positions.

Tonight, the Red Wings are on the road playing a New Jersey Devils team that has won four in a row.

Are you worried yet?

While the team’s playoff cushion is less secure than it was coming out of the Olympic break, there are some positives. Justin Faulk met the team in New Jersey and is expected to play tonight. Slotting him into the team’s top four will make it more formidable. His offensive instincts should help create more goals.

Larkin is on the road trip. That’s a good sign.

Michael Brandsegg-Nygard has eight goals in eight games in Grand Rapids and was called up to take Larkin’s spot in the lineup. Presumably, Andrew Copp, Marco Kasper, JT Compher and Michael Rasmussen will play the center roles.

The Red Wings also called up John Leonard, just in case another player can’t suit up tonight.

Detroit is coming off a regulation loss, but the team hasn’t had back-to-back losses since the end of November.

Red Wings Extra

Detroit Red Wings maneuvering has played havoc with the Grand Rapids lineup. GM Steve Yzerman traded Justin Holl and recalled Michael Brandsegg-Nygard and John Leonard. When you add in injuries to Nate Danielson and Amadeus Lombardi, the Rapids are not quite the team they were a couple of weeks ago. But that didn’t stop them Saturday from posting a 3-1 win against the Cleveland Monsters. Goalie Michal Postava posted 20 saves to improve his record to 12-4-0. Don’t forget about him when you consider Detroit goalies of the future. Carter Mazur also scored, giving him six goals and nine points in seven games for the Griffins. Eduards Tralmaks had an assist.
