MINNEAPOLIS — The St. Cloud Cathedral boys hockey team clinched fifth place at the Class A state hockey tournament with a 6-3 win over Mankato West in the consolation championship game on Saturday, March 7, at 3M Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
Elijah Van Heel led
(19-12) with a hat trick while Caleb Trant, Garrett Loch and Griffin Sturm each added a goal. Sturm and Bo Schmidt also each added two assists in the victory.
Schmidt finished with a team-high 57 points (25 goals, 32 assists) to lead the Crusaders statistically on the season. Sturm finished second with 51 points (22 goals, 29 assists).
CHS goalie Hunter Moreland finished with 29 saves. Moreland finished with a 15-7-0 record in net.
Cathedral out-shot the Scarlets 34-33. The Scarlets finished 20-9.
